FREDERIC — A 68-year-old Ohio woman died Tuesday when the snowmobile she was operating crashed into a tree near Frederic, Crawford County Sheriff Kirk A. Wakefield said.
Deputies and the Frederic Fire Department Snowmobile Rescue team were dispatched to trail 679-9, in the Deward area of Frederic Township, just before noon, Wakefield said.
Speed and inexperience likely contributed to the crash, the sheriff said.
“It was reported to deputies that it was her first time on a snowmobile,” he said.
Wakefield did not release the name of the woman, who was operating an Arctic Cat Crossfire.
