**This accident did not involve a snowmobile**
MARQUETTE -A body recovered from the Carp River is believed to be that of a woman involved in a rollover accident that occurred late Friday night.
At about 2:20 p.m. Saturday, the Marquette City Police Department dive team recovered the body of a female in the Carp River, near the intersection of U.S. 41 and Cliff Power Road, according to a press release. The name of the driver is not being released pending family notification.
Police received a call regarding a rollover accident at about 11:57 p.m. Friday night. Initial investigations showed the vehicle was traveling south on U.S. 41 when it left the roadway and appeared to have rolled several times, landing on an embankment near the river. For several hours on Saturday, the whereabouts of the driver where unknown.
Marquette police were assisted in the investigation and search by the U.S. Coast Guard, the Marquette City Fire Department, Marquette General Hospital EMS and the Chocolay Township Police Department.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
