Dolgeville, N.Y. -
Although sufficient snow cover is lacking, Dec. 1 marks the opening of the snowmobile trails in the village of Dolgeville.
And while it is unlikely the trails will be put to use on Tuesday, Police Chief Howard Lanphier is asking riders for their help in advance to make this a safe and enjoyable riding season for everyone.
Copies of the village’s local law concerning the operation of snowmobiles in Dolgeville are available at the village clerk’s office.
“All snowmobilers are responsible for knowing not only the state laws, but also our local law regarding snowmobiles,” he said. “Any questions concerning where to ride or laws concerning riding should be directed to the Dolgeville Police Department at 429-8231.”
Lanphier said patrols will be checking for violations and tickets will be issued.
“Please understand that we are not trying to inhibit the use of snowmobiles, but they must be operated within accordance of the law,” he said.
The chief added that the local snowmobile clubs have always worked with his department to keep everyone safe, and that he looks forward to that same level of cooperation in the future.
