The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office is asking the public’s help as it investigates a snowmobile crash in Bedford Township in which a man was killed and a woman injured.

Joshua A. Brennan, 29, of Temperance was killed in the crash in the Douglas and Consear roads area northeast of Bedford Public Schools bus garage. The incident was reported at 10:56 p.m. Friday.

Rachel A. Yeupell, 22, of Temperance, a passenger on the snowmobile, was injured in the accident and is in stable condition at Toledo Hospital.

According to sheriff’s office investigators, Brennan was operating a 1999 Arctic Cat ZL 550 snowmobile east on the baseball diamond when he swerved to avoid crashing into the ball diamond backstop.

He was thrown from the snowmobile into the snow next to the backstop. Yeupell also was thrown from the snowmobile and landed near Brennan as the snowmobile rolled over and eventually came to rest nearby.

Brennan and Yeupell were taken by ambulance to Toledo Hospital in Toledo where Brennan was pronounced dead from his injuries, according to investigators. Both were wearing helmets at the time of the crash and neither appeared to have been drinking alcohol, sheriff’s investigators said.

Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call sheriff’s investigators at 734-240-7565.

Two storm systems combine to bring a sprawling snowstorm to the Midwest, Mid-Atlantic, and Northeast Tuesday and Wednesday.

The northern storm swirls southeastward from the upper Mississippi Valley today to the lower Ohio Valley Tuesday. Light to occasionally moderate snow moves along with the storm dropping 4 to 8 inches of snow from eastern South Dakota through southern Minnesota and central Iowa.

The southern storm brought a quick 2 to 6 inches of snow across central Arkansas and western Tennessee this morning. Memphis had 3 to 5 inches across the city and Little Rock picked up a quick 1 to 4 inches. Light snow was reported as far east as south-central Tennessee and northern Alabama.

That system dries up as it continues to move eastward this afternoon, but a new round of snow is blossoming to the west over southern Kansas and northern Oklahoma.

The snow lifts to the northeast through northern Arkansas and southern Missouri on its way to the lower Ohio Valley by this evening. Accumulations of 2 to 6 inches are possible across southern Kansas and northern Oklahoma. Additional snowfall of 3 to 9 inches is possible across southern Missouri and northern Arkansas through Tuesday morning.

Tuesday the storms combine to bring a snowstorm to the Midwest, Great Lakes, and Ohio Valley.

Significant accumulations of 6 inches or more are likely in an area bound by Chicago, Indianapolis, Columbus, Ohio, Cleveland, and Detroit.

Tuesday afternoon and evening the storm begins moving into the Mid-Atlantic spreading snow into western and northern Virginia during the afternoon and into the southern half of eastern Pennsylvania, Delaware, Maryland, and New Jersey during the evening.

Overnight the snow spreads throughout the rest of eastern Pennsylvania into New York and southern New England.

On Wednesday the storm rapidly strengthens off the New Jersey/Long Island coastline prolonging heavy snow from Washington to Boston. Strong winds develop Tuesday night and Wednesday producing blizzard conditions along the coast.

Brian T. Thompson, 37, died instantly of blunt force trauma to the head and trunk, Mongell said. Thompson, who was leaving a party at Creekside Inn, was northbound on the trail, just north of Tish Road in Morgan Township when he crashed.

“(Thompson) was riding his snowmobile at approximately 60 mph, witnesses said, when the snowmobile struck a tree that had fallen halfway across the trail,” Mongell said. “The snowmobile hit the tree, flipped and hit a fence.”

Mongell said the impact was so great that the strap on Thompson’s helmet broke, allowing the helmet to fly off Thompson’s head.

“He had obvious head injuries,” Mongell said.

Thompson’s female friend was a passenger on the crashed snowmobile, Mongell said. Her name was not immediately available.

“She suffered a broken arm and some other injures and was treated at UH-Geneva Medical Center,” Mongell said.

Mongell said Thompson’s body was sent to the Cuyahoga County Coroner’s office for autopsy and toxicology screening. Toxicology results will be available within 10 business days, Mongell said.
